The Cockburn Wetlands Details

The redevelopment of The Wetlands Precinct on Hope Road in Bibra Lake included the management of major Stakeholders; WA Wildlife (formerly Native ARC Inc), the Wetlands Centre and the Bibra Lake Scouts remained operational throughout the construction of the new precinct. Construction commenced in January 2020, and completion August 2021.

The large Precinct Development included the following buildings to be constructed:

  • New WA Wildlife (formerly Native ARC) facility and renovation of the existing building

  • Renovation and extensions to The Wetlands Centre building:

  • An education room, relocated meeting room, educational artificial wetland and a nursery

  • New Bibra Lake Scout shed with dedicated Rovers den

  • Additional parking and improved traffic and public access to the site

  • Interconnected landscaped walkways and outdoor classrooms

The Wetlands Precinct has been designed to allow the three key onsite stakeholders to expand their operations as well as cater for the wider community.

Metal wall and roof cladding in colours that reflect the natural bush are combined with feature rammed earth walls that define the entrances and offer opportunities for wayfinding and artistic expression through its colour, form, and texture. Formal paths between the buildings will reflect the colours and material used in the rammed earth to further connect the architecture with the landscape.
