Tell us a bit about your firm:

Gary Batt Architects (GBA) work solely on aged care projects. Specialising in one field of Architecture has allowed us to build vast experience across all facets of aged care including aged care facilities, retirement living, dementia specific accommodation and medical facilities.



What is a highlight of your career?


Seeing the successful completion and occupation of a large aged care facility where I was involved in all stages from sketch design to the construction phase as the project architect.

Where do you get your inspiration?


Travel, colleagues, mentors, magazines…


What’s hot in Architecture this year?


Public spaces, locally: lots of great architecture with amazing public spaces that have been embraced by the community.

What’s your favourite product/finish?


Matt finish Colorbond/rammed earth/recycled timber.


When you are not at work, what keeps you busy?


Renovating, touch rugby, traveling, family time…

What do you see for the WA Construction future?


Definitely on the upturn, health and aged care sector is strengthening. Also confidence seems to be coming back to residential.




What’s on the horizon for you and your company?

Some very exciting and innovative projects including a large mixed-use development that combines aged care, retirement and community facilities in a regional location.
